2022 Research Colloquium

The School of Graduate Studies is pleased to announce the centerwide ANNUAL RESEARCH COLLOQUIUM 2022 and ANNUAL RESEARCH DAY on Wednesday, April 6^th, 2022.

Once again, we will have a virtual poster session, with applications opening February 1^st 2022, entry recording by early March, and decisions on awardees by the date of Annual Research Day.

The day, April 6th, is planned to consist of a celebratory poster session, a keynote address, and finally, a dinner for all participants.

The Annual Graduate Day Lecture will be presented by Nobel prize winner Harold Varmus, MD. Dr. Varmus was director of the National Institutes of Health from 1993 to 1999 and the 14th Director of the National Cancer Institute from 2010 to 2015, a post to which he was appointed by President Barack Obama. He was a co-recipient (along with J. Michael Bishop) of the 1989 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for discovery of the cellular origin of retroviral oncogenes. He is currently the Lewis Thomas University Professor of Medicine at Weill Cornell Medicine and a senior associate at the New York Genome Center.

Presentations for the Annual Research Colloquium are invited from students in the School of Graduate Studies, the College of Medicine, the School of Public Health, the College of Nursing, and the School of Health Professions. Medical residents, postdoctoral fellows, and undergraduate students conducting research with Downstate faculty are also encouraged to present their research findings. The full instructions are included in this copy of the application form.

Applications will be open from February 1st to February 15th, 2022.

After the applications are submitted, they will be categorized, and an invitation to record a presentation will be sent to eligible applicants. Recordings must then be submitted between February 23^rd and March 9^th, 2022.

Faculty and alumni from the campus' colleges will judge the presentations. All graduate students past their second year (excluding those students within 6 months of their final thesis defense) are required to make a presentation.

The School of Graduate Studies will competitively award a number of travel awards ranging from $250 to $1000 to eligible student and employee participants. These travel awards will be for travel in 2022-2023 (to be completed by the 2023 Annual Research Day).
