Mark your calendars for a memorable day of learning and celebration on March 13, 2024, as we celebrate Patient Safety Week. This year’s event will feature a great line-up of guest speakers, fun activities, and inspiring presentations by Downstate’s finest. Join us in exploring advancements in patient safety, process improvement, and quality improvement projects. As part of the celebration, prizes will be awarded for the best presentations!

This event is an opportunity to exchange ideas and best practices to improve the care of our community. We look forward to the participation of all Downstate physicians, nurses, employees, and students. I’m confident you will leave this event motivated and inspired to advance patient safety and quality improvement here at Downstate.

Target Audience:
This meeting is designed for Physicians, nurses, allied health professionals, trainees, students, administrators, and non-clinical staff

Program Objectives

At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to: 

  • Identify strategies for increasing patient safety and healthcare quality practices.
  • Describe key practices that increase health equity and patient access to care.
  • Develop a sensitivity to operations and maintain a heightened awareness of how your systems and processes function.
  • Recognize the role of artificial intelligence in patient care settings
  • Apply WE ACT performance improvement methodology to identify and correct safety issues in their clinical areas.

Learner Outcomes: Identify benchmarks and outcomes demonstrating improvements in patient safety and healthcare quality.

The State University of New York (SUNY) Downstate Health Sciences University is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

Designation Statements:

SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University designates this live activity for a maximum of 5.00 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)TM. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Nursing: SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is approved as a provider of nursing continuing professional development by the Northeast Multistate Division Education Unit, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation. Attendance of at least 90% of the live activity is required for nursing contact credits.

Physician Assistants: AAPA accepts category 1 credit from AOACCME, Prescribed credit from AAFP, and AMA category 1 credit for the PRA for organizations accredited by the ACCME.
